temporary internet file cookies and online banking

In his answer to my question regarding the deleting of temporary internet
files, John Barnett MVP cautions that one should be aware that if you use
online banking facilities any online banking cookies are likely to be
deleted during the clean up process. I use an online banking service and I
have deleted the temporary internet files, en masse, at times. I didn't
notice any problems but was I just lucky or what?

Thank You

Hi Brunetto,
My understanding about cookies is that they Keep track of your activities
from last Session and when you try to visit the site again the old session
cookies in simple Ex; say Hello for the Website Server and say I'm your Man!
the website server say prove it, your ID -- Duration last time --- What have
been done last session in your surf on the website and of course the Cookies
Code (Stringes & Values) if all these add up and Okay matching the Website
server Database you are in, in a matter of less than a fraction of a second
*= Less Time consuming*
Deleting session Cookies doesn't disable or not allow you to open a website
but make it Slow sometimes if the server bussy and have more Hits to deal
with.
Hope this helps
nass

My experience with online banking (and bill paying) is that the browser must
be set to accept cookies from that site, but need not save them. But the
requirements could be different for other sites.

One of the cookie functions is to track your progress through a site. If you
go from say the Account Balances page to the Funds Transfers page, the only
way the web site can track that you are you and transfering money from/to
your account is with cookies on your machine. The pages actually have no
connection and cannot pass information between each other without leeaving
cookies on your computer. So the Funds transfer doesnt get any information
from the Account balances page directly, only indirectly through cookies.
Deleting the cookies outside a session is not a problem as these will be
refreshed next time you visit the site, but if you have cookies turned off,
then the site does not remember you from one page to the next and therefore
has no idea who you are.
