I've recently installed MS TS on a windows 2000 server and
all of my reading indicates that if you are running
Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro you do not need to
purchase Terminal Servies CALs for them. Recently I
received the follwowing message. "Your Terminal Services
Temoroary Client Licence will expire in XX days". I am
running on Windows 200 Pro.

Why am I recieving this message. If I let the 9 days run
out, will the server continue to work because I am running
windows 200 Pro or will it fail.

Have you activated your license server? Until you do, it won't issue
permanent licenses.

I was on the understanding that you didnt' need a license
server when connecting from a windows 2000 Pro box. Is
that not the case. Do I need to set up a License server
and purchase CALs. Everything I have read from microsoft
states that I don't need cals for Windows 2000 Pro or XP
Pro. What do I need to do?

You don't need to purchase CALS but you must still install a Terminal
Services License Server. This should be installed on a DC and does not cost
anything.

I found out the issue was a Windows 2000 Server running
the Terminal Servies License Server that I didn't know
about. I stopped the license service on that server and
everything is now working fine.

Windows 2000 Pro Machines are still working perfectly with
Terminal Services.

Thanks for all of you help

But they will probably stop doing that after another 90 days!
Again: you *must* have a Licensing server installed and activated,
even if your clients run W2K Pro.
The TS CAL is *not* included in the client, it is given for free to
the client by the LS.
If the rogue LS ran at least SP3, then your clients have received a
license with an expiration date, and when that hass expired, they
will not connect any longer. New clients won't either.
