Templates in word

When I click new in the file menu templates do not appear as they did in
previous versions. Where are they?
 
Click on the "On my Computer" link under "Templates" in the Task Pane.
 
Are you using office 2003? If so, they are located in the side-bar on the
right hand side of the screen. If you don't see this new tool, Go up to your
menu bar and click File/New and it will appear. It will give you an option
to create a new Blank Document, XML document, etc.... In the second section
of this is where it shows that you can create a document from a template,
either using one online (and it gives you a search box to find one online) on
your computer or on one of your "Word created" websites. Most of us still
use the regular standard templates that are found under the section "On my
computer" So just click that and it will bring up the old screen you are
used to seeing to choose your template.

Task Pane is the name of that new tool that I called the "side bar" below.
