Templates I create always use absolute links

In Frontpage 2003, working on my local drive, I made a new page from an
existing page. I then saved as a template and chose "yes" when it asked if I
wanted to save the template within my site.

Oddly enough, when saving it asked where I wanted to save the banner -- I
chose not to save it and use the file in its current location.

When I try to use the template, or when I go to edit it, I see that any
links within it are absolute rather than relative. I've tried opening the
template and changing the links to relative, but they change back. Any ideas?

Also, when I goto save the template it saves it somewhere in my application
data, and then like I said before I did choose to save it within my site.
When I make a new page based on the template how do I know if the template
being used is from the local hard drive in application data, or from the site
in _sharedtemplates?

Has anyone else had problems where templates use absolute links to things
like graphics and page includes instead of relative links?

Does anyone have any tips on making and storing templates in an environment
where other people will be sharing webmastering duties on different PCs.

In my experience templates do this - make all links absolute. This is
because they are not normally saved in the website, and can be used in
any web site.

If all users have FrontPage 2003 or Expression Web you could consider
using Dynamic Web Templates instead - save your template as a .dwt
within the website. This will preserve all relative links, and has the
advantage that any changes to the template will be automatically added
to all attached pages (provided the site is edited as a disc based web,
or server based with the latest updates to the FrontPage extensions)
