Templates and add-ins

I've read the online Help topic and am still a bit confused. I've created a
custom template with custom toolbars, menu commands, and several other custom
features. I'm trying to deploy it for company-wide use, but I'm not sure of
the best way. Do I need to make everyone attach the new template to each
doc, or can I can have them continue to use the Normal.dot, but attach
SRD.dot (the custom template) as an add-in? I'm unclear on the difference
between the add-in and the template. On my machine, it seems to work both
ways, but I'm skeptical that this will be the case for the whole office.

Any insight?

Thank you!
