Template Table Styles

Hello,

I'm creating a new template and want to lock down the available styles
by
1) removing the built-in Table Styles
2) creating a new table style with fixed borders and text styles but
variable size (either taking up the full width of the page or less
than the full width but centered)
3) lining up the borders of the table with the body text (as opposed
to aligning the table text with the body text)

1. You cannot delete the built-in table styles, but you can set a custom
table style as the default.

2. Word table styles don't store any dimensions. What you can do is create
an example table with the desired settings, and then save it as an AutoText
entry.

3. To accomplish this, set the cell margins to zero in the Table Options
dialog box. To open the dialog box, right-click the table and click Table
Properties on the context menu. Then click the Options button on the Table
tab.

Note that cell margins can be set in a table style and, of course, also
saved as a table AutoText entry.

Thanks Stefan! That was very helpful.

I've created my custom table style and set it as the default. When I
create a new table, however, the text in the table has the same
formatting as the previous paragraph rather than the formatting
defined in the default table. How can I lock down the default table
style so table text is consistent throughout the document, regardless
of the body text where the table is inserted?

Unfortunately, the font formatting of table styles is tied to that of the
Normal style. Hopefully, you can work around this by applying some style to
the table cells (but see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/tablestyles/index.html for complications).
