Template files

I created a few Word template files (.dot format) and uploaded them to my
SharePoint site. However, when a visitor clicks on the file link (within
SharePoint), it immediately converts and saves the file as a .doc file.
Strangely, it does this with IE -- but Mozilla and Safari preserve the .dot
file format.

So... any ideas if this is browser, Word, SharePoint, or connection issue?
