Word to PDF to MOSS. What happens to the document's properties?

All,

I'm building documents in Word 2007, saving them as PDF, uploading the PDFs
to SharePoint 2007, and finally entering metadata on the document through the
SharePoint content type for the document library.

If I were uploading the documents into SharePoint as a Word file, the
metadata would be captured in the Word documents properties. But since I am
uploading these documents as a PDF does anyone know if the metadata become
part of the document? If so, how do I get to it outside of SharePoint?

Sorry for the multiple postings - when I tried to post it said the post
failed....but apparently it didnt!
