template does not open as a doc...

Hi all...

I have made 5 word templates with out any issue.

However on my machine I can open the template and the document will open a
new document and not the .dot file itself….

However on my coworkers’ machines they get the template file opened instead.

We all have the same computer setup in terms of brand, hardware and OS (XP
sp2) as well as office 2003 + sp2.

We have a local copy of the file on each computer for easy access and testing…


Never seen this before and had no luck on google..

Help!!!!

How are they "opening" the template? If they actually open it, then of
course it will be opened for editing. If they double-click on it in Windows
Explorer or on the desktop, the default action should be New; the same will
be true if they use it through Word's New or Templates dialog. If any of
this is not true, then it may be that the file association for .dot files
needs to be repaired by reregistering Word (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm) so that the default
action for .dot files is New.

thanks for the response but the problem seems only to be with that template...

the other ones i made 1 week ago works fine on other computers..

is there something i am missing...

i am sure it is something simple :/

You still haven't actually answered my question about how they're "opening"
it. If it's on a Web site, I know those behave differently from those stored
locally.
