Temp too high

Khaled Sultan

I'm currently running an Athlon 1800+ xp chip on an ASUS A7V333 motherboard.

I've been noticing lately that my CPU temp is higher than it used to be
before. It's currently sitting at 78 C. I believe before it used to be
around 62 C. This is true even when my CPU is less than 5% usage.

I'm suspecting it's the power supply (generic). Should I consider something
else before I go out and by a new power supply?

Also, what good power supply should I get? 300W, 350W, or 400W. Does it
matter if it has one or two fans? Any advice would be greately appreciated.

Thanks.

Repost this message in alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus as
it seems to be a hardware issue. Although Athlon's are known
to run hot, even a "normal" operating temp of 62 deg. C is
too high. How much ventilation and how good is it running
through the computer case? Heatsink fan running clear and
free? Describe, not here, but in the Asus newsgroup just
how the computer was assembled --- how many fans, size,
type of case, etc. HTH.

Hi Khaled,

I would check for dust build up around the CPU heatsink and case
vents. I had to clean out my CPU heatsink with toothpicks! I would not
recommend this for a simple dust build up - cotton buds would be
better if you can get them in between the fins of the heatsink.

Cheers,

Cliff
