CPU Temp too high

I'm currently running an Athlon 1800+ xp chip on an ASUS A7V333 motherboard.

I've been noticing lately that my CPU temp is higher than it used to be
before. It's currently sitting at 78 C. I believe before it used to be
around 62 C. This is true even when my CPU is less than 5% usage.

I'm suspecting it's the power supply (generic). Should I consider something
else before I go out and by a new power supply?

Also, what good power supply should I get? 300W, 350W, or 400W. Does it
matter if it has one or two fans? Any advice would be greately appreciated.

Thanks.

Have you opened the case and checked for dust bunnies?

Canned air is best. Do not use a blowing type vacuum cleaner as the
force and static it creates may damage components. A small soft
brush and canned air blown around the CPU fan fins, case fan, and
power supply fan should get rid of most of the dirt and dust.

While you're in the case, make sure the fans are operating at their
rated speed. CPU fans, especially the cheap models, bog down after
long use because of bearing wear. The best remedy is to replace the
fan with a quiet high capacity unit which can be purchased at any good
computer outlet store.

Much more likely the fan - a poor power supply would not have this
effect. Open up and check that the fan is running enthusiastically and
not clogged by dust. A new fan is not expensive
