TEMP Folders with .dir00 Subfolders

Hello:

At %temp% I find a number of folders named WER___.dir00. Inside these
subfolders, theree are quite a number of files with the extensions:
..hdmpand/or .hdmp

These pertain to a chat program, zone alarm security suite, firefox browser,
and IE browser.

They add up to many megabytes of space.

Questions:

1) What are these MDMP and HDMP files. ?

2) Can I safely delete these?

3) Alternatively, can I safely delete the entirety all of all those .dir00
subfolders?

Thanks in advance:

-Eli

The name suggests DUMP files, but without knowing the full directory name
its difficult to pinpoint it

Yes

Delete the entire temp directory, subfolders and all.

It looks to me like Windows Error Reporting dumps. Your computer must have
had a crashed program or something and Windows wanted to report the error.
Windows Error Reporting must not have exited properly and didn't delete the
temp files. It doesn't matter. It is absolutely safe to delete the folders
unless you want to do something with the dump.

Anything in the temp folders can and should be deleted. Best to do this
after a fresh restart. Program installation can write files to this folder
which need to run on the next restart. So after a restart then you can
delete the contents. Some files might be in use at the time so they can't
be deleted.

Rock,

Some '~DF' files located in the user's temp folder may not be able to be
purged until the following day. Maybe if you use the MoveFileEx API function
you maybe able to do something with them.

Plus, there are the some files (upto 6 of them
(mPlayer.dj.dll/Flash6MovieV2.dj.mvx/File.dj.mfx/Registry.dj.mfx/System.dj.m
fx/FlashPlayer.dj.ocx)) that are locked by Windows & also may not be able to
be deleted until the following day too.

Also, the temp files should be destroyed when the programs are successfully
closed. However, due to the sloppy coders out there they are reluctant to
make sure they have cleaned up.

Also, some installation files create temp files, but are still held in the
registry. If you try to uninstall those applications it maybe looping for
the setup.lst file etc, which maybe deleted.

Me however, being a programmer have a one button solution that cleans my
entire computer developed by myself for myself :D

In my reply it stated, "Some files might be in use at the time so they can't

So what is your point?

This a DUMP files and a warning message to you to act early and back up
your data, one of two you have a bad Hard drive , so est your hard drive
health by downloading the Diagnostic tools from the HDD manufacturer website
for your HDD specs and make a floppy or CD/DVD and run on start up.

Your system may overheated and performing self destruction, I have this
secnario happen before, t gives you warning and then cease to Boot Up and you
will get the HAL.DLL missing or corrupt or similar thing.
So check your system consistency and perform health check on all
applications and hardware.
