Telnet & XP Problems

I have been unable to log onto telnet w/XP Home edition.
Fire wall is diabled. able to establish a connection but
when asked for id and password I'm kicked out. client
server only uses one IP address. any Ideas would be
helpful

Sound like the problem exists at the server end and not on the XP Home end.
