Tells me Windows is not genuine - it is!

I just started getting Microsoft pop-up messages yesterday when I log onto
Windows XP Home, telling me my version of Windows isn't genuine. It
definitely is! It started (I think?) when I accidentally logged onto Windows
under my "other" log-in (which I set up in order to keep my personal files
separate). I logged out of that, logged into my normal log-in, rebooted etc.
but still get the pop-up several times a day. Is there a virus that does
this? Has my Windows somehow lost its validation # or what?

Any help appreciated.

No, not a virus, it is spyware placed on your PC by Micro$oft. It was
pushed to your machine through M$ Auto-Updates, labelled as a 'critical
update'.

Search through this newsgroup for WGA for a LOT of discussions of it.

The short of it, is that M$ has decided that EVERY install of XP is a
bootleg copy/pirated version, and will not believe otherwise until their
WGA tool says it is not....'guilty until proven innocent'.

They are doing this for 'your' protection.

Please download and install:

Then re-boot Windows. Does this resolve the issue?

If not, then:

Please follow this simple troubleshooting procedure:

1. Download and install the MGA Diagnostic Tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. After running the MGA Diagnostic Tool, click
on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the
"WGA Validation Problems" forum and paste the
results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in a detailed post.

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and
recommend an appropriate solution.

The "appropriate solution" is for MS to get rid of this spyware/malware
not send paying customers on a download this and that and does it
resolve the issue trip.

The "appropriate solution" for Sara is to back up everything, reformat
the hard disk and reinstall Windows and to be careful not to install WGA
in any and all over its many versions and types again. This can now be
down with setting Automatic Updates to notify but the user decides what
to install.

Why should any legitimate customer have to jump through all these
MickeyMouse hoops? Only trained seals are expected to do tricks like this!
MickeyMouse has blown it, big time. Just in case someone wasn't clear
before on how little MickeyMouse cares about its customers, this whole sad
episode should leave no doubt in anybody's head, except of course for the
Windoze Fanboys and the work-for-nothing (but a phoney title) MVPs.

When MS says "Jump", Carey says, "How high?"
