Telephone affecting PC

I have recently restored my PC back to factory defaults
(which includes windows XP). Now everytime I use my
telephone my PC swithces itself on. The PC is an advent
3209 and I have a xeror workcentre attached to it via USB
(currently not supported by XP but Xerox say it is safe to
use). Anybody help
 
This is easy to solve! Your motherboard probably has
Wake-up on Modem/Ring on LAN in the BIOS settings. If you
enter the BIOS (usually by pressing DEL on startup) and
search for this setting and turn it off it should solve
the problem.

I'll give it a try when I get home. Out of curiousity why
has it only occured in XP and not in Windows 98
 
Any other suggestions as I have not changed the
configuration of my PC
