You should be able to get a job fixing them, most likely with relatives/friends at first and then by word of month. Try posting some notices in places and charge a reasonable rate ($15/hour?)
The best way to start is to not charge, and prove your good at it, and accept donations. Thats what i did, worked a treat... Always explain to the customer what you are doing so they are never in the dark, and make it sound like you were actually working for your money...!
I have been doing that for about six months now. Its summer time, and I need some more cash for the recording studio I am building. Do you think any computer repair places would hire at 14?
I would work for yourself, make some fliers... let your freinds know you are starting the bussiness. I can't tell you how many freind's parents were willing to pay me ( as long as I actually fixed the problem). Yea its summer so too late to ask teachers, but i bet the cad teachers and any of those computer teachers do side work.
I got a 15 year old in my neiborhood who puts up fliers once a month, boasting about his 1 year experience in computer repair.... "I am 15 years old, and though I have no formal training; I make straight A's in school and take computer classes" --- personally I hate his flyer- but I'm sure he does get work ( Especially if he can afford to post new fliers every month or so)
I still do some side work and enjoy it much better than my tech support job. I can hand pick my clients, and refuse work if I choose. Plus, with a real job you won't have as much time for your jam sessions/practicing/gigs/studio etc......
Problem here aswell ... i am 15 ... and really need money since i keep spending since y'all probz know !!! lol I have the paperround on da run but ain't really doing much ... since i am spending about 30pounds on hats etc lol Worth it doe hehe
Can't wait till 16 to work in my local Martins lol Need money !!! hehe Just built my friends pc, and made 150pounds from it lol but after one week he is a major virus ! lmao i don't think i will be able to fix it so i suggested taking it to a professional lol Oh well hehe
Not many peeps need a computer fixed at my school ... they suck !
when i build a computer for a friend or relative i charge 10-30 $ (5-15 pounds) other people... 40$
as for you job hunting my young friend... you could work for yourself or work in a local computer shop.
its going to be tough, but you will last.
Don't know whether you are from the UK or abroad. I agree, in the UK it may be hard to get work unless you know someone that works/deals in PCs and will let you work with them. I think Chris and the others make a good suggestion - try to do some work for friends/family for free perhaps they will give you a few punds as a thank you??) but be CAREFUL and don't take on anything you can't handle and like Chris suggests, keep the customer fully inormed of what you are doing/intend to do.
I have just fixed a friend's laptop which took me forever and I wouldn't have dreamed of charging her. I am quite a bit older than you and in return I got some wine and chocolates which was lovely!!
What about trying something like a paper round?? Doesn't pay much but it's a start.
I live in the US, it is hard to get a paper route here because everyone with one can drive, so they are looking for people old enough to drive, and i still have a year and a half.
I will agree with the ones that said, “Start for free”. If you have already done work for free and you have faith in yourself, then I would charge a small amount for your service. The more computers you fix the more you will learn, hence the more you can charge. This is the same thing I did with my web design.
try and find a small local PC repair shop and ask them if they need any help
