Received an email today basically telling me to delete a file associated
with a Teddy Bear icon (jdbgmgr.exe).

I remember reading some time ago that this is a hoax. Is that correct, and
if so, what would be the result of deleting the jdbgmgr.exe file?

Yes, it's a hoax, as 30 seconds with groups.google.com
(search for 'jdbgmgr.exe') would tell you. It'll also tell you what the
file does, and that 99% of users wouldn't miss it anyway.

Rules of thumb - please read carefully:

ANY e-mail message exhorting you to forward it to all your friends is
a hoax.

ANY e-mail message using LOTS OF CAPITAL LETTERS AND !!!!!s is a hoax

ANY e-mail message sent to more than about twenty people is likely to
be something you don't want.

ANY sender dumb enough to include all the recipient addresses in the
e-mail is dumb enough to believe anything and, therefore, should not
be trusted. If they are a friend of yours, try to educate them to at
least use BCC.

| AFAIR jdblabla.exe is (part of) a java debug manager, so I guess you
| could encounter problems in case of faulty java applets/applications.
| Not sure though.

Nah, only if you need to write java code - AFAIK it's not required by the
viewing code.

Steve :)
