jdbgmgr.exe

Help! I received info from a friend that the jdbgmgr.exe
file with a teddy bear icon is a virus and to delete it.
I did find this file in two of my windows folders.
Question: should I delete it?
Concern: Got a message like this a few years ago, deleted
the file, and it crashed my computer. Is the info to
delete this: jdbgmgr.exe correct or not? what should
I do.
I would really appreciate info from someone who knows.
Thank you.

Normally I would say "the letter is a hoax. If you do not do debugging,
you'll never miss the file but there's no need to delete it."

However, in most cases there is only one copy in Windows\System32. You
*might* have a second copy laying around as I do. So instead, I'll say: If the
files appear to be identical (both have the teddy bear icon), you're fine.

No, you should not, this is a valid Windows file.

Although, to add to what Doug has told you (and he's known as a man of few
words), removing the file would categorically *not* crash your computer -
it's impossible for it to do so. In fact, to the average user, it is
completely superfluous - the people to whom it means something wouldn't be
asking the question. It is the Java Script Debugger and it is of no use to
anyone - unless they happen to program in Java. So, had you gone ahead and
deleted it, you'd never have known it was missing.

Whatever caused your computer to malfunction a couple of years ago was
nothing to do with this file - it was caused by some other force and the
fact it happened at the same time was purely coincidental.
