Hello,

I'm trying to install a SAMSUNG 160GB 7200RPM 8MB OEM (HD-SS-SP1614N) as a
second HDD in my computer. The CMOS Setup Utility recognizes it as IDE
Primary Slave with the jumper in the second (slave) position or without the
jumper. My problem is that the MAP command does not see the drive. As a
result I can't partition and format it.

What am I doing wrong?

Install the drive on it’s own as a Master, format and partition the
drive
and install Windows XP. Then remove it, clear the CMOS and
reinstall it
as a slave. Hows that?

what do you mean map command? what are you using the mount the drive?

You find the MAP command when you boot from the Windows XP disk.

Problem solved. You must partition and format the drive before using the MAP
command. I
didn't.

Thanks for the suggestion, but all I had to do was to partition and format
the drive and then use the MAP command. I'm using Windows XP Prof.

as future reference, you can start up windows xp
goto control panel
goto administrative tools
goto computer management, a new window will open
goto disk management under storage
the bottom section of this window will list the physical drives you
have installed, whether it is usable or not, rish click the drive you
want to use then select initialize drive
then you can create partitions/format by right clicking the drive there
