I recently installed Microsoft Security Update 2 on my laptop and I'm now
getting an error message each time I start up my computer. The message says
the following: "DNS Cache Init Failed, TCP socket initialization failed:".
I'm using Windows XP, Spybot, and the basic Zone Alarm firewall. Any
suggestions for a computer novice?

Tim,

yes, use http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm to diagnose and
solve the problem.

My first guess would be Winsock corruption or trying to run two
firewalls at the same time, but the diagnostic engine on the web
page will point that out in more detail.
