TCP/IP Problem

Okay, I'll try again. the last time my post did not post...
I have an older laptop running 2000 Pro. I found that after a time of not
using it, it would no longer connect to Bellsouth. I called Bellsouth and
was told that there was a problem with internet protocol TCP/IP in the
registry, and I should call Microsoft. I called Microsoft, and as usual,
not much help. They told me I had to call Toshiba to get tech support.
Toshiba told me to call Microsoft. Tech support is completely useless. I
have three other laptops and a desktop that log on, no problem. Does
anyone have any ideas? I am doing a multi-country business trip and would
rather loose the oldest machine than a newer one. HELP!

Can you provide some more details as to what the problem actually is and
the context in which it appears? Are you connecting by modem, by wired
network card, by wireless?

What do you mean by "after a time of not using it, it would no longer
connect"?

Are there any power settings that might be shutting off network components
to reduce battery draw?
