I am trying to print to a remote printer and need assistance. Details:
Win2000 SP4, HP4 Plus printer shared as hp4 with adequate permissions and
security, static IP address on both sides.

First tried setting it up as a network printer \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\hp4. Cannot
connect. If I open "run" and enter the IP address I can see the printer but
cannot connect. If I share other directories I can see and open those.

Tried reinstalling the printer - no luck. What am I missing?

Try installing it as a "local printer" and adding a "Standard TCP/IP
port" with the IP address.
