How can i run an application scan to determine what
application has port 110 open on XP pro?

You may want to give fport from Foundstone a try. I found out about it while
reading a variety of books on network security.

The command is:

netstat -ao

Do a "netstat /?" to get help on the options.

Thanks to all of you

I found a nice utility called Active Ports (FREEWARE AND
IT WORKS GREAT) turns out it was PC-Cillin scanning
incomming mail grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr caused me lots of grief
but actually i am the one that turned it on.
