Icons near the clock are auto-run - right click on the
icon, go to customize or properties or whatever looks like
a place where you can change things, and see if there's
a "don't run at startup" option. Icons near the Start
button can (usually) be right-click deleted . . . there
are a few exceptions.

What are you trying to remove (and why) ?

If you mean the the icons in the quick launch bar, you can right click
on the task bar, select "Toolbars" then click on "Quick Launch" to
untick it.

Go to Control Panel - ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and delete any printer support
programs that are no longer required..
