Taskbar Toolbars don't retain settings

When I start my computer, the language bar shows, and my
quicklaunch has icons from my desktop. I turn off
quicklaunch and language bar, then turn on Quicklaunch
again, and all is well.

How do I get Windows to retain my settings!!! PLEASE, THIS
IS DRIVING ME NUTS!

Hiya,
I had the identical problem, downloaded the free SpyBot
Search and Destroy and it got rid of the annoying problem.
Try it - no harm done. Spy Bot creates a restore point in
the System Restore, which you could go restore your
system to if you have any probs!!

Neither fix solved my issue. I can get my taskbar set up the way I want.
That's easy. Windows just doesn't save the settings when I reboot. So EVERY
TIME I START MY COMPUTER I HAVE TO SET MY TASKBAR THE WAY I WANT!

Ok, I use Win XP Pro. I start up... my task bar toolbars are all mixed up.
Where my quickbar should be are randomly selected icons from the programs
menu. Also the language bar is on my taskbar.

So, I turn off quickstart, turn of language bar, turn ON quickstart (now my
icons come up correctly).
Then I unlock the taskbar, fix the size of quickstarts, and lock the taskbar
again.

Then I shut down my computer... I restart... and have to fix the task bar
all over again.

Don't know how much more details I can give you.l

THE TASKBAR TOOLBARS DO NOT RETAIN SETTINGS.

Calm down....

What are you calling Quick Start? I will assume here you mean Quick Launch.
Also, if you are stating that the Taskbar (opened but minimized programs are
listed first) icons are listed before the QL items, use the four cornered
sub-menu pointer item to drag it over to place. As for the language bar, it
the settings aren't keeping from the taskbar options, change them via the
Control Panel/Regional and Language Options.

Thank you for continuing to try to help me.
When I start my computer, on my task bar I have:
Start|Quick Launch (with random icons)|Running apps|Language Bar|System Tray

What I want it to start with is:
Start|Quick Launch (with the correct buttons)|Running apps|SystemTray

All I need to do to get Quick Launch to show my correct buttons is to turn
it off and turn it on. So somewhere it knows what I want there. It just does
funky stuff at start up.

I don't need to change any language settings, I just don't want the Language
bar (or whatever it's called) sitting on my task bar taking up space.

This issue has been on my system for some time and nobody seems to have any
idea how to fix it.

Most welcome and thanks for the added details.

1. Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

The edit above generally works for most. For some users that the icons
switch around under QL, they have had to either number them literally and
others have found the solution within:

Quick Launch: Won't remain checked/present nor retains the sort order

Either check your settings here:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

In the right pane under Userinit, Change the key to read:
C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,

Or download and run the reg file on line 263 (right hand side)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

More QL options here: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm

2. I understood what you meant and answered you. If the "hide" language
bar setting does not do as intended, check the same setting under Regional
and Language Settings. Or try the edit on line 194 (right hand side):
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm or via my Taskbar Repair Tool.

Good luck!
