taskbar size will not adjust

C

Charlie Brown

Windows XP SP1, OEM install

Today, I did something to my taskbar. Now, it is too
thick; that is, it is twice as thick / wide. Usually, it
consumes one row. Now, it consumes 2 rows.

If I try to reduce the size, my only option is "0", [ no ]
thickness.

I want to use the "quick launch tool bar". I have that
enabled. To the right of the quick launch [ QL ] icons
are 2 columns of dotted lines. To the right of the 2
columns of dots, there is empty space until one reaches
the system tray.

UNDER the QL icons is another set of dotted lines in 2
columns. Each column has 4 or 5 dots. I'm not at the
computer, at present.

This 2nd row appears when I open a window [ IE, OE, "my
computers", etc ].

The task bar is not locked. Auto hide is
disabled. "Leave on top" is enabled. Groups is not
selected.

I can't use system restore because I installed some
programs after this problem occurred.

The language toolbar is also enabled. If I uncheck it [
right click on the task bar, left click toolbars, left
click language bar, the language bar returns after I
reboot.

I feel silly about posting this problem, but I haven't
been able to find the answer in the KB, nor google nor
search.yahoo.com

Since I don't know what was said on your first post, excuse me if I repeat
something that others may already have suggested. First, unlock the taskbar.
Place your pointer over one of the sets of double, dotted lines, click &
hold, the drag it so it's in line with the other set. Then, hold your
pointer on the top edge of the taskbar until you see that it turns into a
two-sided arrow, then click & hold while you drag the top edge down until you
have the smaller, narrower taskbar. The, lock the taskbar.
