Taskbar Problems

My taskbar shows the time on one line and the date on the next line. It will
not show all open windows in the middle section if you have more than 4
windows open. It used to make them smaller so you dould see more. Now it puts
them below the task bar where you have to turn the curser into a doulbe
pointed arrow and pull up the taskbar. I've formated partitioned and reloaded
Windows XP. It acts like it will work right when it first reboots then blinks
a couple of times the screen goes blank and the task bar is corrupted again.
Help! Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,
I tried everything at Kelly's Korner and it didn't solve the problem. I am
now being told by an HP Technician I need a new Hard drive. I find that hard
to believe with everything else working OK. Anyone else heard of this
problem? Could it be a bug somewhere besides the hard drive?
