Taskbar problems

My taskbar doesn't want to show any window tabs. It will show toolbars, but
as soon as I close the toolbars it will act as if I resized it to nothing.
Very frustrating. Have both SPs 1 and 2. I can still alt+tab to things.
Suggestions?
