Taskbar Problem

P

Philippe

Hi

My brother has Windows XP Home Edition. In the past few days a problem has
developed where every time the computer is booted up or is rebooted, the
taskbar extends from the bottom of the screen to about half way up the
screen. The word Start on the start menu has also disappeared.

I've tried running Norton Sytemworks 2003 with updates on the PC (Norton
WinDoctor) as well as the Standard Windows CheckDisk program to no effect.
In addition I've run the Windows Service Pack 2 over the top. Since the PC
was purchased SP2 has come out & the original XP disk says it cannot run
"over the top" without data destruction.

Other than a data backup & reformat any ideas on how to solve the problem?

Firstly don't reveal your true email addy here - mung it else you
will be spammed something chronic.
Secondly give that Norton garbage the big A, don't mess with it.
Thirdly try doing a system restore to a date prior to the problem.

True - I get a lot already - that is what Spam filters are for I guess -
have on both my Emails - I enjoy bouncing the Emails back to the spammers
using Mailwasher Pro (there's a free plug guys).

Doesn't seem to help much. Doesn't seem to do much harm either
Thirdly try doing a system restore to a date prior to the problem.
Did that - didn't work. Think the computer is due for a reformat some time
soon.

Thanks anyway Roberto,

Phillipe
did my sugestion work for you
BTW Spammers are much smarter than the average punter, it's difficult
to work out their true emaill adress so bouncing spam is often
useless.
