Taskbar is stuck in up position

I have had my taskbar set to auto-hide and everything has worked fine, now
it is stuck in the up position and will not hide. I have not changed any
settings (auto-hide, taskbar on top, group similar items are checked.). I
have tried unchecking taskbar on top to no avail. Help Please.

Try unlocking the taskbar and unchecking the items you mention. Restart the
computer and try checking them again. If that doesn't clear things, you
should be able to use system restore to before your problem to correct the
problem.

Thanks, the reboot worked.

Thanks, the reboot worked.

It's good to remember that rebooting solves many such problems. It's
almost always worth trying as a first step whenever anything doesn't
work the way you expect it to.

I have the same problem and have had it since I bought the laptop
(with Vista Home Premium SP1) a few days ago. Rebooting is not a
solution (even though it has been Microsoft's solution to everything
since Windows 3.0) if I'm not willing to reboot every hour. Isn't
there a REAL solution somewhere?

Hello Doug,
John also suggested system restore. Have you tried that ?

Not yet. I haven't progressed that far in the few days I have had the
system. It still sounds like a band-aid instead of a real fix. My real
fix may be to revert to XP!

hi,
honestly, these "quote" windows are super boring, a waste of time and
space, a delay of navigation, and more annoying then a parrot.
Do you use them for playing? Just Drpatt uses and abuses showing these
around with addition, when it comes to read, it ends up with a few
lines...is it going to be like this all the time around here? Thank you.

It is hard to respond to a comment like this because it makes no sense
whatsoever.

Hello,
Perhaps I should clarify one point. System restore is meant to UN-do
changes made which might, or might not, cause the irregularities. It's
not a band-aid solution, as you put it. Do it methodically, we could
pinpoit the culprit. Thank you.

The culprit escaped. About two days later the taskbar started working
again and it still works. Whoever programmed it must have programmed
the turn signals in my Jeep. They act the same way.

You are funny !

So's my Jeep. At least Vista is working fine now (and, unlike the
Jeep, it doesn't rust). I acutally find myself preferring it to XP.
