Taskbar is cutting off the bottom of maximized windows, please hel

I don't get it. My taskbar is overlapping the bottom of anything which is
maximized- is there any way to remedy this? I don't want it the other way
around, but I'm sure that I can get the desktop to effectively stop at the
taskbar, how?

Right click the Taskbar | Properties | Taskbar tab |
UNCheck: Keep the taskbar on top of other windows

Keep the taskbar on top of other windows
