Taskbar Icons

I am running XP Home Edition.
The taskbar Icons no longer hide themselves when
inactive. I have checked the properties for the taskbar
and all the correct settings are selected (hide when
inactive etc...). This is a new problem and does not
coincide with any changes or new programs. I have limited
the number of running program icons to six but on average
you will only see two. I now see all six.
The running programs are:
Sygate personal firewall
GoBack
Norton Antivirus
And three inocuous programs.

Any suggestions?

have norton antivirus auto protect and it always shows and so does a firewall
as for goback im not sure but i dont think theres much you can do about it if
anything.

See if any of these edits from Kelly's site work:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Hide or Show Inactive Icons - Notification Area (line 53)
Hide Inactive Icons and More (line 88)
Hide All Notification Area Icons - Undo (line 134)
Hide or Show Notification Area Icons (line 294)

Thanks, Rock! This should help.) In addition:

Try setting the very first icon listed to Always Hide. It will restore the
chevron. Note, this does take time to happen. Also clearing Past Items has
helped many. Good luck and let us know what worked for you.
