Taskbar icons

I had been asking earlier (Feb. 9th) about the Quick Launch bar making the
Taskbar double wide, and the only solution seemed to be going into the
registry which I am hesitant to do. So I put the icons I used (from Quick
Launch), i.e. Outlook Express; Internet Explorer; and Windows Explorer (I
don't care about Windows Media, I rarely use it), anyhow, I put those icons
on my desktop. Of course then I have to access Desktop (Ctrl + D) when I
want to go to those icons. My question is this: Is there any way to put
those particular icons individually on the Taskbar? (Without using Quick
Launch of course)

Why don't you just fix the taskbar? Right click the taskbar and make sure
that "Lock Taskbar" is unticked. Then again right click the task bar, go to
toolbars and make sure "Quick Launch" is ticked. If the taskbar is
double-wide, hover the mouse over the top of the taskbar until it becomes a
double-headed arrow and click and drag it back down to single width.

You can only change the thickness of the taskbar if it is unlocked.

No, you can't put shortcut icons on the Task Bar directly, only on the Quick
Launch bar. However, although the Quick Launch Bar appears on the Task Bar
by default, it's a separate toolbar like other toolbars, and can be dragged
off the Task Bar entirely. For example, on this machine here, I have the
Task Bar on the bottom of the screen, but the Quick Launch Bar off it and on
the left side of the screen.

You should use the quick launch toolbar. I found your original post, does the following info help?

If the following diagrams don't look right, change you view options to fixed-width font.

If your toolbars are arranged like so:

------------------------------------------------
| Programs Taskbar
Start |---------------------------------------
| Quick Launch Bar
------------------------------------------------

You will only get double-height or disappearing. You need to first drag one of the bars to the
right or left so that they look like this:

Doug,

Thanks, but I had tried all that. The double headed arrow (yes taskbar is
unlocked) won't work, that's why I had posted in the first place.

Ken,

Thanks, but putting the Quick Launch bar on the desktop isn't really any
different than having the individual icons on the desktop, because I still
have to access desktop to access them. Have to use Ctrl+D to do that since
the desktop icon isn't on the taskbar of course.

Oh, wow, that did it! Thank you SO much!

You will then be able to resize the bar in single-height increments.

You're welcome. Ken Blake explained the concept in one of his replies to your earlier posts; but
it's one of those 'a picture is worth a thousand words' situations. Glad it's fixed.

Looking back, I see he said "put all the toolbars on one line", but I didn't
know how to do that. You told me HOW to do it, and again I thank you.

No, if you put the Quick Launch bar on one side of the screen and set it to
"Always on Top," it's always accessible.
