Taskbar Icons in lower right hand area of desktop display

Recently, when I power up my Dell Inspiron 8200 running XP Pro SP2, I have
missing icons in the task bar on the lower right hand corner of the display
screen. The programs seem to load but some are not displayed and the
expand/contract arrows are missing. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Without knowing what program(s) you are talking about, it's impossible to
give specific advice.

The lower right right hand corner of your display is called the "system
notification area" or, colloquioly, the system tray. The system tray doesn't
have expand/contract arrows (usually called "handlebars").

Not all programs that run in the background display icons in the tray. Other
programs have options you can set to not display an icon in the tray.

If you have a program running in the background that you feel should be
displaying an icon in the system tray, and there is no option in that
program's menus that has a setting for choosing whether or not to display an
icon, you should contract technical support for that program.
