taskbar icons disappear

the sound and dial-up connection icons keep disappearing
from the taskbar, when I choose "show taskbar icon" they
appear but after restart they disappear. My connection
icon is set to appear but doesn't appear but it connects.
Please help if you can.

I have a similar problem which started after installing
the latest updates from Microsoft. Taskbar icons
disappear, but return for a session if I log off and then
log on again. If I rool back to the "last known good"
version, everything works normal.
Maybe someone at MS can look into this and figure it out.
