Taskbar Calculator

Hello all.

I once had a tiny little (AFAIR it *was* so) calculator utility that
I've lost and am searching for. It had no window. It just sat on the
Windows taskbar like the task-tab (or what is it called) of any other
application, and you could click on it and type your simple
calculations 5+2[ENTER] and it would show you the result 7. It was a
beautiful application and AFAIR it was a single standalone exe.

The only thing that I remember about it apart from how it worked is
that it used to have a right-pointing solid-blue triangle as its icon.
I can neither remember the exact name nor where I downloaded it from.
:( Anybody know where it is?

I have been searching Google desperately for any signs of its
existence but all searches for Taskbar Calculator turn up a utility by
one Marco Maroni. It is also quite useful and simple (although the
necessity of having to install it slightly decreases the convenience -
I always prefer standalones) but I still want the original one back.
I've searched all my backup CDs but it's not there anywhere.

Can someone please help me? I will be so grateful... :)

I can't help you find this particular utility, but is it really necessary? I
sent a shortcut of XP Window's Calc.exe to the desktop and then drug it to
the quick launch bar. Always there when I need it.

Hello and thanks for the posting. I really don't want to popup a new
window and then having to hit Alt+F4 to close it after I'm done. Maybe
one may think I'm lazy, but really, isn't that the point of using all
these freeware - to make things easy? :) If you do see it, tell me.
Thanks anyway.

One of the options in Calc98 allows you to minimise
it to the system tray.

I can't get it to start minimised in the system tray,
but you only need to open it once.

A number of applications now provide something that might serve your
purposes as a minor feature amongst many others. WireKeys, Dave's
Quick Search Deskbar, etc. If you are interested in these other
features anyway ....

WireKeys
www.wiredplane.com

With WireKeys, highlight the valid expression ending with "=" (in
notepad, IE address, inside Google ng post), press Run hotkey, answer
replaces highlighted text. Type: 1+2*3= Press: ctl-alt-r Replaced
by: 7

(Help extract) (Note, default Run key is Ctl-Alt-R)
"You can also 'run' arithmetical expressions, in this case the result
will be inserted at the cursor position automatically. To be treated
as expression selected string must end on '=' char. You can even use
trigonometrical functions as Math.sin(...) / Math.cos(...) and so on!
Calculator based on Java-Script engine."

Dave's Quick Search Deskbar
http://www.dqsd.net/

This one _is_ resident on the toolbar. I put it near the tray and
display time, day, and date (including nominal seconds) in the space
it uses. (DQSD also uses a language library but I've forgotten which
one.)
Type: 1+2*3 Press: return Replaced by: 7

(Help About excerpt)
(Note, precede expression with "=" although sometimes it is not
required)
'Convert between currencies: "100 usd>gbp"'
'Mathematical expressions: "4*(pi-3)", "pow(1.06,30)"'

Just a thought,
BillR
