taskbar buttons invisible when minimized

I just installed the Adobe Reader update 7. 0. 3. and Macromedia's Flash
update only to find my taskbar malfunctioning. I uninstalled both, used
System Restore to try to get everything back but without success. Anyone know
how to get my taskbar back in working order? It's a bit awkward doing
everything through the Task Manager! I can see the taskbar, Start button and
all the icons for system tray are there - just no buttons!!
