Taskbar brings up unwanted Search Assistant on restart/start-up

Taskbar brings up unwanted Search Assistant on
restart/start-up. Also, all Quick Launch icons are re-
arranged into a new configuration, and all customizations
are lost. This happened (seemingly) after I changed my
User Account password, but I have changed the password
before with no other problems resulting. Does anyone know
how to fix this?
