"Task Scheduler" service is required?

I have no scheculed tasks in the Control Panel->Scheduled Tasks. But I
have the "Task Scheduler" service running. That is because I'm not sure
the Windows system itself uses this service to run some unknown
scheduled tasks. I saw there's an option that 'lets Windows optimize
file system when idle' at some system tweak utility program. Does this
kind of Windows activities rely on the Task Scheduler service? And the
Automatic Update service seems to check updates for a scheduled period,
does it rely on the Task Scheduler service, too?

I myself never use Scheduled tasks feature, but I just wonder disabling
the service could block some important unknown-to-users activities of
Windows.

In short, is it safe to disable the service as long as I don't use
scheduled tasks?

Windows relies on TS for some performance enhancing tasks. But nothing that will prevent the computer from working.
