Can't load Task schedule service

help!
i'm having problem with scheduled tasks. just refusing to work.
in the scheduled tasks window, i tried to click Advanced -> Start using task
scheduler, but nothing happens, its like i unclicked it at all.
so i went to Services, and i saw that the service isn't started. when i try
to start it i get this error message:
"Could not start the Task Scheduler service on Local Computer.
Error 1717: The interface is unknown."

what to do??

I have both "remote procedure call (RPC)" and Remote procedure call (RPC)
Locator" running.

Sounds like the Event Log service is not running.
