Recently the tasks in my Task Scheduler have stopped running - "Could not
start". When I try to check the properties of the task, I get a "General
page initialization failed. The specific error is 0x80090016: Keyset does
not exist...An error has occurred attempting to retrieve task information.
You may continue editing the task object, but will be unable to change task
account information." As the error message says, I can edit the task, but
the task still won't initiate as scheduled.

I've not had much luck googling this error, especially for Windows XP
(Home).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Pete

Facing the same issue but in a Windows 2003 Server.

I am facing exactly the same issue but in a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition with SP1. The Protected Storage service IS STARTED and set as 'Automatic' so it is running properly. The resolution informed in the 'http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;246183http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;246183' doeshttp://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;246183' does' does not help me. I thank if anyone can help me with this issue.

Igomes16,

Did you find a solution?

I am having the same problem in a WinXP Pro SP3 with all patches applied.

Thanks,

Hanna.

I face this issue on a W2k3 box, not a XP... I do not know yet the resolution for this. One possible troubleshooting is to try to 'kill' all sched. tasks, boot the server and recreate them, if possible. Fingers crossed.... 8^)
