Task Scheduler errors and not running

My Symantec Internet Security won't run the 'autoupdate' because the "task
scheduler" has issues. I followed out Symantec's trouble shooting for the
non-working Auto Liveupdate to the Task Scheduler. When I try to test the
task scheduler by adding something to it I get error messages. I also can't
attempt to change the properties of a task either.
As follows:
adding; Task Scheduler
The Specific error
0x80070005: Access is denied
The new task has been created, but may not run because the account
information could not be set.

changing: Task Scheduler
General page initialization failed.
The Specific error
0x80090016: Keyset does not exist
An error has occurred attempting to retrieve task account information. You
may continue editing the task object, but will be unable to change task
account information.

As a result my AutoUpdates aren't running and possibly one of the reasons I
got 'bugs', I wasn't up to date. I'm using 'cable internet' so I need to be
up to date on my anti-virus. I've cleaned up the machine spybot, adaware,
norton internet security all say I'm clean, but I can't seem to get task
scheduler fixed. Any suggestions?

Best if you got rid of NIS. It's bloated and problematic.

Thanks for the replies,
First of all Task Scheduler is empty. When I try to add something to it,
that is when I get an error message. (I'm trying to test it to see if it's
(task schdlr) working. I'm adding a Microsoft product to it, so I'm assuming
Task Scheduler is broken. NIS aside, if my Task Scheduler is broken I still
need it fixed. Any suggestions on that matter would be greatly appreciated.
The suggestions on NIS will be taken into consideration, it's always nice to
get someone else's opinion on software but that doesn't fix my problem. As
far as asking Symantec about the issue they're trouble tree led me to
testing Task Scheduler which doesn't seem to be working. Once I can get TS
working I'll find out if NIS updates work then I'll go from there.
