Task scheduler does not work properly

Hello:

First time posting. I cannot seem to get task scheduler to automate certain
tasks. My Norton anti virus runs fine every week. When I schedule defrag,
the screen simply blinks when the scheduled time occurs & nothing happens.
When I schedule disk clean-up, the process begins as scheduled & will list
files for me to delete but I still have to manually click ok to delete the
files. I was scheduling all these tasks without a password.

I've contacted Dell & they have had no success in helping me. I was
referred to Microsoft for a hotfix as I was encountering an error message:
0x8007005: ascess denied. The hotfix was of no use. I discovered that I
needed to create a password which I did which removed the error message but I
still cannot schedule my tasks.

There is a workaround throught start>run>gpedit.msc but when I type this in,
it says file cannot be found.

Please help. I'm about ready to call Microsoft & pay the $35 for them to
troubleshoot the problem.

Most sincerely,

John

When you set up the defrag, put a check in the box that says to view
advanced properties after setting up. Make sure your info in the run box
looks like:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\defrag.exe C:

Hi Karl & anyone else::

I think defrag is working. Since I added C: to the scheduler, a box comes
up that is black & at the top it reads, "C:\Windows\system32\scvhost.exe"

Below it has an analysis report showing whats fragmented. The box stays
there for a few minutes & then disapperars. At the time, it said 22% file
fragmentation. When I ran it again the analysis report said someting like
13% fragmentaion.

I guess I expected the scheduler to run defrag using the same interface as
if I would run it manually.

Two questions:

(1) Do you think it is defragmrntying properly now & why does the
interface look different?

(2) Now, what about disk clean-up? How can I congigure it to automatically
say ok to delete the files?

Thank you so much.

John

Schedule
cleanmgr /sagerun:n

where n is a number

Before running this task type in Start - Run
cleanmgr /sageset:n

where n is a number and the same number as sagerun.

This will configure cleanmgr settings that are used when sageruned.

Hi:

I tried that & used 50 as a number. Clean-up runs but I still have to cleck
ok to delete the files?

What do you think?

John

Sorry, I tried it by using "n" but I still have to click "ok" manually to
delete the files.
