Task Manager

Hi all...
I haven't been near any of my systems in awhile and noticed the other
day when I hit ctrl+alt+del to bring up the task manager, whenever I
attempt to end task on a particular process or processes, a box pops up
telling me:

Unable to Terminate Process
The Operation Could Not Be Completed
Access is Denied

Can someone clue me in on what to do with this? I spent a better part
of the day yesterday trying to research this and came up with nothing
that helped. I am unable to end task on certain processes I want to,
particularly when I am loading new programs or updates before a reboot,
etc...

Been using XP Home for awhile now and under the lemon law was able to
get a new system (This one HP), which I am just now getting around to
setting up and loading programs. Appears that there is Owner listed
next to each process other than those listed System, but on another
system I simply used Dee which was listed where Owner is listed now.

Anyway...not able to end task on anything I want to.
Take Care...
Dee

Replying to my own post:
After a direct connection with HP and not one tech being able to solve this
problem (after having to do a lot of retyping the same words over and over
to them which caused me to end several sessions), I discovered the problem
on my own one morning.
Appeared the latest ZoneAlarm Firewall installed on my system was stopping
me from being able to end task on a process once task manager was opened
without the error message I described below popping up.
Solution, I right clicked Zone Alarm in the system tray and shut it down
first...this then allowed me to once again use task manager for all I had in
the past.
Hmmm...
Maybe something to write them about.
Take Care to those wonderful people who could not acknowledge my original
post...
Dee
P.S. to the person experiencing the same problem...try seeing first if
there is a program loading at startup that may be a possible culprit...then
you can begin to work from there.

Dee;
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | OK |
Scroll down to and double click: TrueVector Internet Monitor |
Logon tab | Make sure *Local System account is checked |
Make sure **Allow service to interact with desktop is checked |
Apply | OK

[[*Specifies that the service logs on to the local system account, rather
than to a user account. Most services log on to a system account.]]

[[**Specifies whether the service provides a user interface on a desktop
that can be used by whomever is logged on when the service is started. This
option is available only if the service is running as a LocalSystem
account.]]

Also look at Recovery tab |
First failure:
Second failure:
Subsequent failures:
Set all three to: Take No Action | Apply | OK

Also look at General tab | Startup type: |
Set to: Manual | Apply | OK

Thanks Wes...
I'll keep that tip saved. All has been well since my last post.
I'll be looking at it all anyway though even if no changes have to be made
currently.
I appreciate the reply.
Take Care...
