I have recently upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 98 and facing problem in
enabling Task manager. Every time i hit the CTRL+ALT+DELETE a banner appears
that says" your task manager has been disabled by administrator". Evenif i
logged on as administrator the problem persists. Also i typed taskmgr on run
command. But it also displays the same message. How to enable the task
manager, please offer me suggestions.

Analyze your computer with an up-to-date antivirus program and an antispyware application. There are some kind of "malware" which can produce symptoms as you describe.

Once your computer is clean, open Start, Run, type (without quotes) 'regedit' and press Enter. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System key and delete a value called 'DisableTaskMgr'. Close Registry Editor and you should be able to open Task Manager again.

Run the edit on Kelly's site:

Line 51: Enable the Task Manager

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.
