Task Manager Problems

I have window Xp Home, My problem is when I Press
Ctrl+Alt+Delete the Task Manager comes up only for a few
seconds and disappears. I am unable to keep it up. This
causes a lot of problem when a program stop responding or
when I want to check the use of the CPU. I have updated
Xp, scanned for virus, even scanned of spy are adaware
but the problem still remains.
