Hey, I just got through working out this problem. If the
first answer doesn't help, do a C:\ search for the
file "mmtask0.exe and winnupdate.exe". They will both be
in your C:\Windows\system31 folder. I pulled my hair out
for a few hours, then I found a solution that was too
simple. Ad-aware and Spybot didn't fix this, but I was
able to just change the extension of these two files.
Then after rebooting I was able to delete them and then
go through the registry to eliminate all reference to
them both. This has proved to be effective, since I
haven't had a problem with them returning in the last 4
hours. I hate this stuff, even System Restore would not
work correctly. Let me know if this helped by e-mail.
