Task Manager is AWOL

I could sure use some advice.

It all started when I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL and nothing happened. No Task Manager.

So I double-clicked on C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.exe and saw the following message:

"Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

Same thing happens when I right-click and choose Open.

How do I fix this?

One possibility -
Why does Task Manager, MSCONFIG, or REGEDIT disappear while opening?

Thanks for responding to my question.

Task Manager does not flash for a second and then disappear. It simply doesn't appear. And I have no trouble with msconfig or regedit.

I actually think I've figured this one out. I installed some special software for my five-year old that combines safe computing with fun stuff for kids to do. (It's a really excellent product.) One of the ways it protects kids from themselves is to make it impossible for the child's account to open Task Manager. Unfortunately the software has difficulty closing, so I'm prevented from opening Task Manager even when I log on to my own account.

I think a chat with the developers will help. Thanks again.

I had that chat with the developers, and it turns out there was in fact a bug in the program that caused my problem. The fix has been incorporated in their new build.
