Task Manager Icon

I've been using Task Manager on Startup since NT workstation and have found
the icon in the notification area useful as it shows what percentage of the
CPU is being used. Now using XP Professional, Service Pack 2, the icon
appears some of the time and some of the time it doesn't. I am using the
Windows Classic start menu. I currently have selected "Hide Inactive Icons"
and "Always Show" for the Task Manager icon in Taskbar properties. When I
select Customize I find that usually Task Manager is listed under "Past
Items." I think I have tried all combinations in Taskbar and Start Menu
properties but cannot get the icon to display consistently.

Any help?

Welcome to the club. This has been reported more than a few times and I
would love to see a solution that works. Exiting and restarting Task Manager
eventually results in it showing up but I've had it take more than a dozen
restarts before it showed up and other times it shows up on the second
attempt. Most annoying.
