Task Manager Disappearing

When I execute ctrl-alt-delete the task manager appears
very briefly then disappears. This has just started. My
husband bought wintweak (?) and has been messing with
some things but we checked all the changes and didn't see
anything that should affect task manager. I even
added 'taskman = taskman' to the system.ini as advised in
one of the help sections, but that didn't help either.
Help please.

You have the W32.Spybot.worm or one of its variants.

Boot up in safe mode, and look in your Windows/System32 directory for a file
called WINCFG.SCR or Winlodr.scr or even wuaumqr.exe. These files will be
hidden, and the first two will also show up as legitimate choices in your
screensaver menu. If you find any of these files, you will need to delete
those, and search the directory again for any other hidden *.scr files.
Erase any of those.

Next start your registry editor "regedit", and do a search for entries using
either WINCFG.SCR or Winlodr.scr or wuaumqr.exe and delete any reference to
them in the registry. There will be 6 or more entries.
